HCA, Hospital Corporation of America, understands that both its quality of care and its bottom line thrive in a respect-filled environment.

The Totally Custom Training Solution

In 2006, the company partnered with VisionPoint to ensure a nationwide HCA workplace in which everyone—patients and their families, medical staff, caregivers, administrative employees and supplier—is treated with fairness, dignity and respect. The challenge: provide training that was both cost and time effective, while having a lasting impact in the way it addressed the nuances of working in what can often be an emotionally charged environment. VisionPoint drew on its deep background in diversity and teamed with content experts from HCA. The resulting program centered on a discovery video, a series of compelling real-life scenarios. These established a powerful emotional connection for participants to recognize their own mindsets, biases and stereotypes.

The Outcome

Along with self-assessments and discussions, the one-hour course equipped all 190,000 HCA employees with newfound awareness, skills and behaviors. They also gained a clear understanding that a respect-filled workplace benefits all of the company’s stakeholders—personally, professionally and financially.

 

Franchise slashes costly turnover rates by training managers to motivate employees

Off-the-Shelf and Right on Target

The Business Need

Average turnover rates of 200% - 300% annually put enormous pressure on operating budgets and profit margins throughout the fast food industry. Among 231 Arby’s restaurants owned and operated by United States Beef Corporation, turnover in one region ran as high as 400%.

The Off-the-Shelf Training Solution

The company drew a bull’s-eye on its costly turnover rates with a targeted training initiative built on VisionPoint®’s Whale Done!TM More than 150 frontline managers in stores across the Midwest were introduced to the power of positive motivation in the workplace. Applying the practical skills in their individual restaurants, managers helped employees focus on "what’s right" along with the things they needed to improve.

The Outcome

Today, the turnover rate among US Beef/Arby’s restaurants stands at 120%, less than half the industry average. "Reducing turnover has had a tremendous impact on our operations," reports HR manager, Andrew Arvay. "Fortunately, VisionPoint® was there with the perfect program to jumpstart the process."

Alcoa meets mandatory ethics training requirements on time and within budget

Licensing Options Provide On-Demand, Large-Scale Learning

The Business Need

Alcoa needed to rapidly train production and clerical employees on ethical decision making. These employees had no personal computers and were located in more than 400 locations across 42 countries. Alcoa wanted easy-to-facilitate, quick-hit classroom training with short, flexible agendas.

The Training License Solution

VisionPoint delivered eight downloadable video-based training modules in 17 languages. Each stand-alone, 25-minute module consisted of PowerPoint® slides, embedded video, dubbed audio and facilitator notes. Plants worldwide downloaded the modules in just minutes from Alcoa's intranet. Each site selected the language and subject matter most relevant to them.

The Outcome

Combining existing video with customized materials reduced development time and allowed VisionPoint to meet an ambitious timeline of approximately 90 days for deployment. Feedback verified that training achieved its goal of significantly increasing employee awareness about how and why ethical behavior is critical to Alcoa's long-term success.

Kiwanis International wipes out major health threat to children worldwide

Custom Solutions Meet Unique Goals

The Business Need

Kiwanis International set a $75 million goal for its campaign to eradicate iodine deficiency, the leading cause of mental retardation around the world. When fundraising stalled, the organization looked for help to tell the story with compelling urgency.

The Custom Solution

The VisionPoint team created a powerful and moving film to dramatize the human cost of the crisis and inspire viewers to act. The project also involved creating a music CD, which featured the original score from the film.

The Outcome

In its premiere at the Kiwanis International Convention, the film received a standing ovation and reinvigorated the fundraising effort. Kiwanis now credits VisionPoint's Dancing With The Moon as a major contributing factor to the campaign's success. "The video has not only helped us raise considerable dollars, it has helped us "touch" the hearts of the people, and they have responded," said Steve Siemens, International President, Kiwanis International.
